Acknowledgments

Bring the complete document and an acceptable, current form of identification. Do not sign in advance unless the document instructions allow it. The notary verifies identity and completes the appropriate notarial certificate; the notary does not review the document’s legal effect.
Jurats and Oaths
A jurat is used when a document signer must swear or affirm that the contents are true. Sign the document in the notary’s presence, unless its instructions specify otherwise. Bring valid identification and the full document, including any certificate pages. The notary administers the oath or affirmation and completes the certificate, but cannot advise you on what statements to make.
